Why Donating to Charity Matters More Than Ever in the Face of Political Backlash

At a time of increasing political polarization, the institutions we have long relied on to sustain global humanitarian efforts are being severely tested. In the US, USAID is being maimed by a free-wheeling Elon Musk. Things are also looking bad in the EU. While the CDU in Germany is already thinking out loud about stripping various non-profit organizations of their charitable status, organizations such as Frontex (European Border and Coast Guard Agency) are being provided with record amounts of funding (around 1.12 billion euros in 2025).

Therefore, private donations and grassroots philanthropy are now more important than ever. Charities such as Médecins Sans Frontières do life-saving work without bureaucratic or political constraints. They respond quickly to crises, support marginalized voices and innovate where bureaucracy gets bogged down.

Support what matters. Give where it counts.
